This study abroad course explores the history, memory, and legacy of the long eighteenth century in Great Britain. On location in London, with regional excursions including to Bath, we will visit numerous historical sites including museums, industrial villages, country estates, palaces, historic homes, and other historically significant sites to assess the legacy of the people, places, and events of the Georgian period. Students will gain a solid working knowledge of British economic, political, and social institutions, as well as major events and issues during the long eighteenth century. While cultivating an appreciation of the rudiments of historical research and writing, and an understanding of the political and social biases underlying many historiographical debates, students will critically analyze the modern public presentation of historical events across the United Kingdom.
