Portugal: Counseling and Human Development

This study abroad program will focus on the decriminalization of illicit substances and the social-cultural implications. The coursework will be complimented by guest talks, museum and palace visits, a relaxing trip to Portuguese wine country, boat and bike excursions, and exploration of Portugal's history, landmarks, culture and current events. Come enjoy Europe's sunniest capital and beautiful coastline with us!

Netherlands and Belgium: An Honors Exploration of Human Rights and Global Relations

In this Honors study abroad course and experience, students will learn about the history, landmarks, culture, and current events of the Netherlands and Belgium. The primary focus of the pre-travel course will be global relations and human rights, while also addressing topics such as education, religion, art, and agriculture. The course is also meant to build relationships and connections among students and faculty who will be traveling together to the Netherlands and Belgium. 

London and Paris: School of Design

The LONDON+PARIS travel study provides a formal educational experience grounded design education and conversation. Through the study of both modern and historical sites, students will gain understanding of the social, political and physical influences affecting changes in the built environment. In addition to raising cultural and global awareness, this experience will sharpen students’ design skills, foster critical thinking, and demonstrate the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.

Belize: Service Learning 2019

This cross-generational program partners with faith-based educators in two Belize locations and a group from First Lutheran Church in Brookings to serve the educational needs of K-12 school children and communities. Past projects included assisting/teaching the students in the classroom and after-school programs, improving school buildings, working on the school farm. and other projects. In 2019 we will add a focus on exploring biodiversity with local guides in various settings.

Hong Kong: Global Immersion Program

Study management strategy in a totally different culture! Hong Kong is a dynamic and vibrant cosmopolis that is a fusion of many cultures. Under British rule for over 150 years, Hong Kong incorporates British culture and values with Chinese tradition. In 1997, it was established as a Special Administrative Region and has more autonomy than any place in China. With over 7 million people, Hong Kong boasts twice as many skyscrapers as New York City and is a major world port.

USA: Art and Art History in New York City

This course offers you the opportunity to learn about art and art history by touring New York City's most significant art museums and observing the workings of the contemporary art world. The course will also include a significant classroom component on campus to prepare you and to contextualize the art and institutions we will see and visit. This course counts toward the art history requirements for studio art majors.

Australia: Comparative Development and Commercialization of Medical Devices

In this program, you will explore the process of developing durable medical equipment through on-site discussion and exploration of research lab, development, and manufacturing facilities located in Sydney, Australia. DMEs are medically necessary devices prescribed by a health care provider to aid in, contribute to, provide monitoring of, or treatment for a medical condition. As such, health care providers must possess knowledge of DMEs.

Spain: Global Education

This program will visit cities that are illustrative of the Spanish culture including Madrid, Toledo, Seville and Marbella.  The participants will visit at least two international schools and be immersed in the arts, religion, culture, language and education of Spain.  Excursions include the Royal Palace in Madrid, National Del Prado Art Museum, Toledo Cathedral, Alcazar of Toledo, Alhambra, Seville Cathedral, Marbella Old Quarter and many other amazing sites. 

Ireland: Leadership in Ireland

We will look at leadership and motivation by focusing on interactive site visits in/around Dublin, Ireland to higher education institutions, local businesses, and NGOs to meet with decision makers, leaders, and strategic planners to observe and learn about how they maintain momentum within an organization toward change, development, and leadership.
