Kick start your degree at the University of South Dakota by studying abroad in Scotland with a USD faculty member and other incoming freshmen before taking your first class on campus. Explore the dramatic political, religious, and cultural strife that transformed Scotland from an insular, medieval country into a major contributor to the intellectual and commercial life of the British Empire. Based at the University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495, this program will highlight key changes occurring in Scotland between the 1560s and the present as well as the changing fortunes of the state within the broader context of British history. We will discuss topics such as witch hunts, union with England, Scottish and Irish enlightenment, Industrial Revolution, Scotland in the 20th century, Brexit and modern politics. In addition to Aberdeen, we will also visit Loch Ness and Inverness.
